SYNOPSIS
All The King’s Horses follows the troopers and their faithful companions on an epic journey from the time they left New Zealand, through the arid Egyptian desert and up into the craggy hills of Palestine. Apart from the sufferings of war the horses and troopers often struggled with the harsh conditions and lack of water. For these hardy troopers survival depended on the health of their horses and the care taken formed strong bonds of friendship. Many a hardened trooper was heart broken when at the end of the campaign they were told that the horses were not coming home for reasons of cost and quarantine. This was also the case for the Australian horses. Many of the surviving horses were sold to the Indian Cavalry, and many were destroyed. The Australian and New Zealand Troopers were mindful that their beloved horses did not end up in the hands of the natives who they considered to be cruel. Unfortunately for many of the British horses who fought with courage and with out question in the ANZAC Mounted Division, fate was to deliver a tragic blow and many found there way on to the streets of Cairo only to end their days in a stone quarry.
